A distinction is made between finite energy sources, such as oil or gas, which are only available to us in limited quantities and should therefore be used extremely sparingly, and Renewable energy 
sources, such as solar, wind, or water power. Despite much progress, and taking even a long-term view, these renewable resources will only be able to meet a small proportion of our energy requirements in an economically justifiable way.
